Activities of Mossley Town Council

The forthcoming election called to fill the vacancy in the Lancashire Ward of Mossley Town Council has generated interest in the work and activities undertaken by your Town Council.

Set out below is a selection of recent initiatives and activities led by the Town Council:

  • Engagement with representatives of Network Rail about the Trans Pennine Route Upgrade, one of Britain’s largest rail programmes. The upgrade will transform journeys for passengers in the North of England. We have facilitated ongoing public meetings/information sessions.
  • Representations made about Post Office closures which ultimately led to the reopening of a branch at Raja Bros on Manchester Rd.
  • Proposals considered to install cycle racks at locations in the Town pursued, but currently under review with Tameside MBC and local interests.
  • Measures introduced to encourage the development or expansion of creative groups in the Town, and in particular new start up groups.
  • Successful development of a walking and cycling initiative in the Town, introducing the basis of the Mossley Cycling and Walking Strategy with a significant number of events. The cycling group postponed some of last year’s activities to this year which will be pursued in 2025. We have our own local version of the GM walking festival

  • Community discussion (especially with the Town Team) ongoing about litter collection and prevention in the Town.

This is then taken up directly where possible or engagement with the appropriate body e.g. Tameside, often through Cllr Stephen Homer and other Tameside Councillors.
